Harvey S. Firestone established the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company in 1900.
Firestone begins producing its own tyres in a factory with twelve workers.
1903

Sales pass the million-dollar mark and the brand is on its way to becoming a household name.
The first tyres to feature non-skid tread designs are launched.

An Indianapolis branch manager suggests backing a driver in the Indy 500 to help tout Firestone.
During World War I, trucks prove their value in shipping bulk supplies.

For the first time ever, the Indy 500 is won on a single set of Firestone tyres.
Firestone engineers became the first to develop the industry’s low-pressure balloon tyre.

The Indy 500 is won on Firestone balloon tyres. The value of the track as a test site is proven.
The Voice of Firestone, the first commercially sponsored musical program on radio hits the air.

Harvey Firestone sets out to improve on the early farming tractor’s steel wheels.
Harvey Firestone Jnr, and Managing Director John Cohill, officially open the PE factory.

Synthetic rubber is developed and used due to the threat in natural rubber supply.
Firestone becomes the first company to regularly present its own TV programme.
1943

Firestone celebrates 50 years in business and has to a worldwide organisation.
Tyres are wildly popular. We're now producing one million pounds of rubber a day.

Firestone develops a high-speed race tyre to withstand a speed of 304 km p/h.
Firestone offers radial tyres in their respective Japanese and American markets.
1964
1965
Firestone introduces the concept of wide, low-profile tyres for high-performance cars.
Synthetic rubber is developed and used due to the threat in natural rubber supply.
1971

Firestone introduces the first run-flat steel radial tyre.
Firestone pioneers the concept of the "temporary spare" tyre.
1979
1988
The Bridgestone Corporation acquires the Firestone Tire & Rubber Company.
Bridgestone and Firestone are consolidated under a unified organisation called Bridgestone/Firestone Inc.
1990
1992
The two merged businesses move to corporate headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee.
Firestone, a legend at the Indy 500, returns to open-wheel racing.
1995
1996
UNI-T (Ultimate Network of Intelligent Tire Technology) is introduced.
The Destination M/T tyre is launched and becomes the best-selling product line.
2002
2016
Firestone designs a commemorative racing tyre specifically for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.
Firestone leverages music as a tool to differentiate and further entrench the brand.
